Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige started the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008 with Iron Man. Since then, they’ve made 16 films with at least 8 more to come. This does not include the promised future of the MCU beyond this last phase, which will culminate with the two Avengers: Infinity War films. One of the biggest successes of Marvel Studios has been to bring Spider-Man back into the fold, working with Sony who owns the film production license for the character.
Sony, despite having two very successful films with the wallcrawler in 2002’s Spider-Man and their 2004 follow-up Spider-Man 2, then went on to make three not-so-great Spider-Man films. On top of this, in a sort of panic, they started going down a number of development paths that fans did not seem too enthused by. That is when they made their deal with Marvel to share Spider-Man with their multi-billion dollar MCU.

However, Sony in the last couple months has announced that they are building a brand new Spider-Verse. They have Tom Hardy starring in the Ruben Fleischer directed Venom as well as Silver & Black, directed by Gina Prince-Blythewood, featuring the villains Silver Sable and Black Cat. It’s been previously established that these films are not part of the MCU. Most recently, Kevin Feige told Allocine directly, “For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony project.” That’s as direct as one can make it.

And why do we say it that way? Just watch the video below featuring Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige giving an interview to Film Starts. Listen to the words Amy says and watch Feige’s face as he —
A. seems somewhat surprised by what she is saying and
B. does not appear to 100% agree with Ms. Pascal

As Pascal says, “”Both movies will now take place in the world that we are creating for Peter Parker. They’ll be adjuncts to it, they may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world. And they will be connected to each other as well.” And then, when asked if Peter Parker, as played by Tom Holland, would appear in their spin-off movies, Venom and Silver & Black, she responded, “There’s always a chance. I think one of the things that Kevin has done with Marvel that’s so brilliant, is bringing the fans along, and making each movie feel like a chapter in a book. That you have to read that chapter in order to go forward. And I …read more
