This week's best deals: QuakeCon sale, gaming laptops, GeForce 1080 and more

We’ve reached another weekend and so there’s another batch of this week’s best gaming deals to check out, right here and now. While all I really want to do is lose myself entirely inside the new PC release of Monster Hunter World, there are definitely things that might raise an eyebrow in this week’s selection. As usual, we’ve got deals that’ll work in the UK, deals that’ll work in the US and some deals that will work in both the UK and US, as well as presumably many other places. Let’s get started. It’s time once more to offer up the chance…

Creating a utopia in Fable 3

I decided to create a communist utopia in Fable 3. Actually, I probably shouldn’t use the word utopia as it suggests that I think it would be good, when in reality I have no idea, as I’ve never lived in one. Or a dystopia of any kind. (I don’t think.) I mean how many people need to be pissed off for it to fall in the latter category? 1 million? 1000? 100? If that’s the case then every time there’s a rail strike the whole of the UK descends into one. That and the contentious issue of using the VAR…

The Overwatch League's problems can't be papered over with rainbows

When the Overwatch League’s Los Angeles Valiant won the season’s fourth stage after previously finishing fourth, eighth, and third, I joked that it must have been the power of their Pride patches.Halfway through the stage, the team announced a partnership with the charity You Can Play, which aims to promote equality for LGBTQ+ sports players. It was the first time that the latter had worked with an esports organisation, and saw the Valiant sport rainbow coloured versions of their logo on their team jerseys. It was a gesture that immediately endeared me to them – you support me, a queer…

The video team take on Dread Pirate Tiberian in new Strange Brigade gameplay

Strange Brigade may be the title of Rebellion’s upcoming fantasy shooter, but I reckon it would be a rather fitting name for the Eurogamer video team, too. Think about it – we’re a group of misfits, each with a specialist skillset, who come together when the chips are down to overcome all odds.Well OK, that theory kind of falls apart in that last part, but you get the idea…Read more…

Overcooked 2 review – a new and improved recipe

In many ways, playing Overcooked 2 is like returning to a favourite restaurant after a long absence and ordering what you always used to have. The comfort of familiar, nourishing food is hugely enjoyable, of course, but it’s the sense of coming back to something that’s truly special. When playing Overcooked 2 there’s a lot more shouting and swearing, but the principle is the same – this sequel is strikingly similar to the first game, but a few well-chosen additions and refinements breathe new life into one of the best couch co-op experiences going. For its part, Overcooked 2 assumes…

The difference between the Definitive Edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2 and the original is striking

Larian visited the Eurogamer office to show me the new and improved Definitive Edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2 last week. To do this the developer ran two versions of the game – old and new – side by side to highlight the differences. On one screen we had DOS2 as it exists now, played on a gaming laptop; and on the other screen we had the Definitive Edition of DOS2 played on an Xbox One X dev kit. The difference was striking. It wasn’t a Digital Foundry-style controlled test, with the laptop fans wheezing and picture coming through an older…

No Man's Sky – How to reach the centre of the galaxy

The centre of the galaxy is quite literally your central goal in No Man’s Sky: your raison d’être, the affirmative solution to your crushing existential woes, and for some an absolute crushing disappointment. If you somehow hadn’t already heard, then avert your gaze for now, because here’s where we’ll be explaining not only how to get the centre of the galaxy but also what exactly happens when you finally make it there. So, of course, there are full spoilers ahead. If you can really call them that.Getting to the centre is, fortunately, relatively simple business in No Man’s Sky – the…
