My current favourite book is ‘Magic. A Rough Guide’ by Nathan McGrath. It’s a gritty story based in a Britain where magic is a terrorist offence.

Lizzy, a young magician escapes from a prison laboratory where she’s been locked up with other magician girls since she was five years old. Determined to free all the other girls, things don’t go as expected when she comes across Chris, a joyrider who has only just realized he’s a magician himself.

Review: Everybody's Golf VR – Hot Shots in a Different Dimension

Putt to the test. In the 2017 instalment of Everybody’s Golf, veteran developer Clap-Hanz – supported, as always, by Sony’s own industrious Japan Studio – attempted to reinvent the decades-old franchise, adding open world elements to the classic click-click-click arcade action of yore. Everybody’s Golf VR represents another stark change for the series, bringing the…

Double Fine's Post-Apocalyptic Roguelike RAD Gets Release Date and New Screenshots

Radioactive, man. A couple of months ago, Bandai Namco announced RAD, a radioactive roguelike from Double Fine, and it was promptly forgotten. The game looks interesting; you play a character who travels into the Fallow, a dangerous zone that’s constantly changing. The main hook is that you can transform your avatar with mutations that grant…

Pocket City, urban deers and the rewilding of video games

There’s a moment in an oldish film – I think it’s Mad Dog and Glory but I wouldn’t bet on it – where a guy is taking a photo of a New York street in the dead of night and a deer turns up. I can’t remember the guy’s reaction…

Pocket City, urban deers and the rewilding of video games

There’s a moment in an oldish film – I think it’s Mad Dog and Glory but I wouldn’t bet on it – where a guy is taking a photo of a New York street in the dead of night and a deer turns up. I can’t remember the guy’s reaction – I think it’s De Niro but I wouldn’t bet on it – and I can’t remember how it fits into the plot. Yet I remember, even as it happened, realising that it was too much, too good, too brilliant and clear and luxurious a moment for the rest of…

Xenon Racer Review: Awkward Retro Drift Racing

Futuristic racing games were once among the kings of the racing game genre. Series like F-Zero and Wipeout provided the kind of high-octane racing that other titles failed to provide, and although major publishers have been hesitant to return to this kind of racing, there has been a resurgence in the independent scene. Xenon Racer is the latest title to try and showcase how motorsport may look in the future. That said,…

Discovery’s Michael Burnham Obsession Is Hurting Star Trek Canon

Star Trek: Discovery’s need to make all things revolve around Michael Burnham and her family is not only hurting the show, but the larger Star Trek canon as well. Season 2 of the CBS All Access series has been met with a decidedly warmer reception than the polarizing season 1. Star Trek: Discovery season 2 has not only left the bloody Klingon war behind, it’s embraced its ensemble, making the…

Star Wars 9 Theory: Rey & Kylo’s Force Connection Will Bring True Balance

Star Wars Episode IX will be ending the Skywalker Saga, and that means pulling together threads from all nine Star Wars Episodes. And aside from the Skywalker lineage itself, few concepts have been so core to this saga than the idea of bringing balance to the Force. This is something that we really learn about in the Prequels with the Chosen One prophecy, but it also informs Luke and Anakin’s arcs in…

Sakura Wars Returns on PS4 This Winter in Japan, Spring in the West

Blossoming.Sakura Wars is a bit of a cultural phenomenon in Japan, but you’d be forgiven for not knowing about the old SEGA Saturn series. There were sequels on PlayStation platforms, but the dating-sim-cross-JRPG has been largely absent for the best part of 15 years. Now it’s set to make a…

Every Time Fury Might Have Called Captain Marvel and Why She Didn't Show Up

Nick Fury could have called Captain Marvel countless times through the history of the MCU – but why didn’t he? Set in 1995, Captain Marvel was something of an unconventional origin story for the most powerful hero the MCU has seen to date. By the end of the film, Carol Danvers had tapped into her full power and was able to take down a Kree capital ship single-handed. Nick Fury was so impressed by Captain Marvel that he dedicated his life to combing the planet to find other superheroes, founding the Avengers Initiative. He rightly understood that Carol had headed off into the stars, and… Read more / Source: Screenrant.com: https://screenrant.com/captain-marvel-fury-call-pager-busy/

Dumbo Accidentally Shows Why The Fox/Disney Deal Is Bad

Tim Burton’s live-action remake of Disney classic Dumbo is, accidentally, a rather cutting critique of Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox. It’s been less than a fortnight since The Walt Disney Company finalized its deal to acquire 21st Century Fox and its myriad assets, but we’re already seeing the fallout of that merger and how it’s impacting the entertainment industry at large. The layoffs have started and Fox 2000, one of the company’s celebrated distributors of independent and smaller scale movies, is expected to shut down soon.Critics of the acquisition have been vocal about the many negatives of the deal since it was announced… Read more / Source: Screenrant.com: https://screenrant.com/dumbo-2019-fox-disney-deal-bad/

Star Wars Finally Reveals General Grievous' TRUE Face

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Wars Age of Republic – General GrievousThe Star Wars villain may only have appeared in one actual movie, but General Grievous was instantly one of the saga’s most memorable. Now that his true face has been revealed beneath his famous mask, however, fans may wish to forget it.The commander of Count Dooku’s massive Droid Army blurs the line between organic and robotic, intentionally difficult for audiences to tell where the robotic limbs and upgrades end, and where the living being that was once Grievous actually begins. Nowhere is the point clearer than when it comes to… Read more / Source: Screenrant.com: https://screenrant.com/star-wars-general-grievous-face-comic/
