For one, your companions can die permanently on the game’s hardest difficulty, which immediately sounds brutal. This also means that you’ll no longer be able to help them out with their own missions, or ask them for advice, or even get to know them better. Obviously, because they’re dead. On every other difficulty, they’ll simply be knocked unconscious should they fall in battle.
