BREAKING: Sam Raimi in Talks to Direct Doctor Strange Sequel

The last month or so has been rough for Marvel fans looking forward to the latter stages of Phase 4, but today is set to boost up everyone’s sprits in a big way. After director Scott Derrickson’s sudden break-up with Marvel Studios in early January, the team has been on a search a director to fill his position, and we have some unexpectedly exciting news to share as an update to this story. A new report from Variety.com today has broken the news that Sam Raimi is in talks with Marvel Studios to take over as the director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness!

There has been no comment from Raimi’s representatives or anyone from Marvel yet, but if this comes to fruition, it would undoubtedly be a huge win for the Sorcerer Supreme’s sequel. He has spent the last few years mostly as a producer, helping to reboot classic horror franchises such as Poltergeist and his very own movie Evil Dead. On the big screen, his most recent releases as a director include the 2009 horror film Drag Me to Hell along with the 2013 Disney prequel Oz the Great and Powerful.

What Marvel fans will remember most about Raimi though is that he helped launch the modern day superhero movie, best known as the director of the original Sony Spider-Man trilogy that began in 2002. The 2nd of those 3 films, Spider-Man 2, is widely regarded as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made, and adding that to his background in horror movies, there are not many people in Hollywood better suited to take over this film than him. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Elizabeth Olsen, and is scheduled to start filming this summer for an expected release on May 7, 2021!

Who else is excited about Sam Raimi’s return to Marvel?!
